Scythe sighed deeply and beat his tail on the ground impatiently, sending up clouds of ashy dust from the concrete. His pink nose peaked out of the fence surrounding the twoleg village and his head rested on the ground in defeat. He hadn't seen Feather since the Humans had filled in the hole he usually burrowed under, and he had yet to find another way out of the village. Until he did, Scythe was trapped on the other side of the fence from his love, a prisoner in his own home. Oh, how he longed to nuzzle Feather's soft, silvery fur... Scythe blinked away the image of the beautiful young wolf from his mind, concentrating instead on the lush greenery rolling in front of him and wishing again to be free from the Humans forever.

Serena padded along side a human wall. The surface was smooth and unnatural to her as she brushed alongside it. The humans always had a special and different way of doing thing. That why she found them as such interesting animals. They even possessed the ability to control other animals like dogs and smaller cats that had probably used to be wild. They always buzzed around on their hind legs and made more noise than a nest of birds.
Her thoughts where interrupted and she let out a small gasp as a pink nose poked through the fence and then giggled. Padding over to the hole she peered inside with curious blue eyes to see a human dog. He must be under their control, she though to herself and then realized how silly she sounded. This dog was obviously unhappy, maybe he didn't like the humans. He looked to large to be a dog at a second glance. Maybe he was a wolf, but she didn't know any wolves foolish enough to actually venture into a humans nest.
Out of curiosity she called out in a soft voice, "Why are you on the other side of the fence?" More excitedly and loudly she added, "Did the humans capture you?" What an adventure it would be to be captured by humans. She had heard stories from older wolves passing through that sometimes the humans took wolves in as prisoners and tried to tame them.

Scythe's ears pricked at the sound of a wolf. Could this white she-wolf be his savior? Quickly, the wolf-dog gathered his composure, bringing himself into a sitting position and holding his head high to meet the eyes of the standing wolf across the fence from him. "No," he replied, letting a small sigh escape his muzzle for emphasis. "They didn't capture me. But they may as well have." To prove his point, he stuck out his chest to reveal his human collar, and pawed at the fence lightly with a chocolate brown paw.

Serena dipped her head in sympathy, though she couldn't sympathies much because had no idea what it was like to live with humans. So he was a human dog, she'd always wanted to meet one. The pack elders must have exaggerated about the battles with humans and their dogs, because he looked pretty friendly.
There was a faint scent of the forest lingering in his fur. He must have been in the forest a few times before. "Well, are you aloud out?" she asked, normally curious. She'd seen some humans with dogs on long lines attacked to their collars. She stared straight ahead, her blue eyes fixed on the fence as a plan had just stared to form in her mind.

"Not anymore. See this fence?" He flicked his tail, motioning to the wooden fence circling the whole village. From where they were standing, you couldn't see the end. "They built it so I would stop going into the forest, and so the valley wolves couldn't get in here." Scythe sighed again, kneading the ground with impatience. "But there's a latch just above me that opens a small part of the fence. I could escape... if someone helped me." The wolf-dog eyed the she-wolf with his radiant amber eyes expectantly, filled with hope.

Serena paused, her brother was going to have a fit if he found out that she had let a human dog loose in the valley, but staring into his amber eyes... He looked so helpless on the other side of the fence, kind of cute, like a puppy who'd been scolded. She seemed almost to glide forward towards the fence. A small string dangled infront of her with a shiny silver circle attached to it. It hooked onto the latch on the other side.
Her blue eyes glimmered with determination as she leapt up and balanced on her hind legs, trying to grasp the circle with her teeth. It was harder than she thought. If only the humans had enough sense to have made it bigger, but that would have ruined the purpose of keeping wolves out. On her fourth try she let out a growl of satisfaction as it hooked onto her tooth. With a rough tug it swung open and behind the gate stood a bold, chocolate brown, wolf/dog.

Scythe blinked, hardly believing what he had just witnessed. He had known that even the stupidest wolf would be able to break the lock on the fence. But he had never really expected one to come along even to strike up conversation with him, let alone actually free him! After a few moments of standing there stupidly, Scythe popped out of his trance and leaped at Serena, nuzzling her gratefully. "I owe you everything, wolf," he told her, crouching low to the ground in subordinance as he would for an alpha. Then, standing up, he continued, "I must go now, but if you need anything of me, you'll know where to find me." And with that, the bold brown wolf was off to find Feather and a new life, never to look back upon the village. ... Or so he thought.

Serena was surprise that she felt a bit crestfallen that the wolf~dog had to leave. She would have liked it if he stayed a while and talked. "Wait," she called after him, "What's your name?" She started to chase after him, "Where are you going?" The first thing that popped into her mind was how was she supposed to find him when he could go anywhere? The last place he would go would probably be towards the humans, but he could go anywhere, like unknown lands. The thought that he was going on an adventure sounded great and she was determined to follow. Plus, she'd do anything to get away from her nosy brother.

Scythe stopped running, turned around, and sighed. He supposed he should humour the wolf that had freed him... however, his heart ached to see Feather. "My name is Scythe," he replied politely, though there was an obvious edge of impatience in his tone. "As for where I'm going... no where far, that's for sure." He hesitated, then added, "Wherever the Putnar go, I guess."

Instantly something Scythe had said clicked inside her head. She made a face and swore loudly. This was probably the wolf/dog that Feather had been forbidden to see. I'm so dead, she thought to herself. There was no way to get out of this one. She sighed and turned her head towards the trees. She imagined her brother there frowning down at her from behind a holly bush. There was the familiar look of disapproval in his eyes, and his gaze was fixed on her. Only there was one problem. When she tried to stop thinking about him the illusion wouldn't go away. "No," she moaned to herself as she heard him growl. -_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_- Teryn had spent his day searching for his sister because, as usual she wasn't where she was supposed to be. He had a pretty good idea about what she was doing. He had come just in time to see the Dog race out of the gate and for Serena to follow him. A growl rose in his throat when he caught her eye. Not in the mood to be messed with he walked down over to join them. Giving his sister a dirty look as he passed her. It was probably apparent that they didn't get along well. He tensed, gold eyes flashing as he prepared himself to attack, ignoring his sister's protests. When there was a threat you dealt with it.

Scythe's amber eyes widened as the large white wolf approached. He hadn't been looking for a fight, but what had he expected? He clearly wasn't wanted anywhere near the Putnar or in the Valley, and this male was just doing his job- to protect his pack. All the same, Scythe wouldn't back down. With a heavy sigh, he too readied his haunches in a crouch, preparing himself for the other wolf to leap first.

"No," Serena shrieked at her brother. Her blue eyes were wide with alarm. Without thinking she barreled into him. Taking him by surprise she pinned him down to the ground with ease. It didn't matter now, she was dead anyways. -_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_- "Get. Off. Of. Me." There was a small intake of breath between each word, and they were spoken in a harsh whisper through his teeth. Teryn was fuming, you could almost see steam raising off him. He used his hind legs and tossed his sister off as though she was as light as a feather. Then in a smooth motion he flipped onto his paws and lunged for the Dog with a snarl.

Scythe nimbly jumped to the side, barely avoiding the large wolf's lunge. The wolf-dog knew he wouldn't be able to counter-attack this huge beast of a wolf, and he definitely couldn't keep leaping around for long before he tired. There was no way Scythe could win. The only other option was to run, and though he knew the forest well, he was definitely no match for a pack wolf in any sort of race. Unless... The she wolf -did she say her name was Serena?- had helped him twice now. His whole life pretty much depended, right now, on whether she could pull off one more stunt...

Teryn made a small ark, his paws kicking up clumps of dirt. Bile rose in his throat when he realized that his sister barred his path, Again. "Get out of the way, Serena!" he pelted full speed towards her. He could hardly believe himself when she didn't move. Her blue eyes were troubled, uncertain and sad, but she stood her ground deffending that Dog.
Then suddenly she looked down and a tear glistened on her cheek. She was crying. Paws skidding on the ground he halted beside her. Unsure of what to do he started to muzzle her comfortingly. "I'm sorry, I'm sorry." he murmured under his breath. "It's okay, everything is going to be okay. I'm sorry, I'm so sorry."

Seeming to be forgotten, Scythe took advantage of the emotional moment and cautiously backed away from the siblings, breaking into a run after a few steps backwards. Well, he thought, that was that. He really did owe Serena now. As he dashed through the woods, racing at almost top speed, he couldn't help thinking that pretty much every wolf would have the same reaction as Serena's brother did. No one would want him around, or anywhere near the valley... except one person. Scythe's knees weakened and he almost crashed into a tree at the thought of Feather's beautiful, silky white fur. Swerving just in time, the wolf-dog slowed his pace to a quick trot as he reached the edge of the woods. If he had thought the battle just now had been hard, even Scythe knew he was doomed. The things you do for love, he thought grimly as he stepped out of the shelter of the trees and into the cold night.
