Kuma was crouched under a bush while a storm was raging. I knew I shouldn't have came out on patrol today! she then thought. The wind was blowing harshly, howling in Kuma's ear. It was rippling her coat so hard she felt as if her pelt was being ripped off. Lightning lit up the sky and Kuma shut her eyes in fright. Shortly after the lightning, thunder ripped the sky open with it's powerful cry. Kuma stood up in fright and was knocked off of her feet when the wind changed directions. She tumbled and tumbled until a tree blocked her way. Digging her claws back into the soft dirt, she waited for the storm to lighten up a little, at least so she could walk without tumbling and tripping over the roots of the trees. She sat down and curled around the tree, a low branch covering her head, letting her stay dry. Hours upon hours passed by and she drowsed into a deep sleep. She was dreaming of being back in camp, when a loud noise woke her up. Everything was wrong. The wind was screaming so hard she could barley hear, but could hear the loud thunder perfectly when it rumbled, right above her head. She slunked down and was blinded when lightning struck the tree she was curled around. She felt very hot, while she was gaining her view back she thought, I'm burning my fur off! This isn't right. I should be freezing. With the little view she had, she looked up. Her tree was ablaze, sending ashed everywhere. She took one good look and bolted through the rain. She couldn't see, but that didn't matter now. She was still running when her paws left ground and she tumbled forward, unable to stop herself. Yelping, she tumbled into soft ground. She looked around and saw only darkness. She felt the bullet-like rain on her pelt and scrambled into the dark, waiting for her nose to bump into something. It never did, because Kuma stopped . She noticed she was covered by the ground on top of her. She felt around and felt the soft ground surrounding. Her she rolled in it and pushed her snout into it, like a pup. She was so happy to be out of that storm. She circled a spot, around and around, and finally laid down. She quickly fell asleep. Almost greedily, and had good dreams.

Martial paused in his tracks as he saw the little black scrap of fur tumble head-first into the gorge. Better fate than burning in that tree, he thought, gazing solemnly at the tree, lighting up the darkened horizon with bright orange flames. Though he wanted more than anything to crawl into his warm, dry cave and sleep, he supposed he had better go see if the little thing was alright. With a heavy sigh, he loped over to the gorge and peered down to see the small black and white wolf curled up in sleep. So it had been Kuma that had narrowly escaped death, he realized idly as he regognized the black ball of soaked, singed fur. Though she looked content now, Martial knew as well as any wolf that the gorge meant death once the rain flooded everything. And by the looks of these clouds, a flood was imminent. So, with another heavy sigh, knowing he was giving up his relatively dry fur for good now, he began the steep climb downward towards Kuma.

Kuma was sleeping soundly when she heard pawsteps coming down to the Gorge. "Martial!" she barked. "How did you find me?"

"I saw you tumble down here like a dead carcass," Martial explained breathlessly. You know it's sad, he thought grimyl to himself, when you're out of breathe after running DOWNhill. After a pause to catch his breath, he continued, "I thought I'd warn you that after a heavy rain, the gorge usually floods. Do you need help getting out, or are you okay?"

Kuma opened her eyes after hearing Martial explain that the Gorge will flood after rains. I looked down and saw rain gathering little, by little. "I-I-I think so." Kuma said, her voice quivering. I placed my paw on a ledge and tried to scramble up. I slipped and fell, due to the rain, making the sides wet. "Martial, I need some help." I said, my voice soft. I was hurt bad, and my back leg was in so much pain. I tried to stand up, only falling down because my leg couldn't support me. Laying on the ground, I waited in agony for Martial to help me.

[OOC: Is first person allowed...? ]
The large copper wolf sighed is resignation, and stooped down, carefully scooping Kuma up and flipping her onto his soaked back. She was a light load, compared to some wolves he had lifted before. Now, getting back up this gorge would be the harder part. placing his footing carefully, Martial slowly but steadily made his way up the steep ascent. After what seemed like ages, the two finally reached the top just as the first roll of thunder began growling. "And where there's thunder," he told Kuma, "there's lightning soon after. You're a lucky wolf that I pulled you out of that death trap in time."

((OOC/: I don't know.))
Kuma felt awkward being lifted up by Martial, a wolf she barely knew. As she was dumped off of his back, sh didn't hear what the young wolf was saying to her. "Yeah, okay." she mumbled, barely knowing what she said. "Thanks." she then said, it almost gagging her.

"No problem," he grunted in acknowledgement. Martial shook himself in a vain attempt to free his fiery red coat of all the rain that had soaked in, but it was no use. "You probably have no where to go now..." Martial realized. "Come with me, and I'll see what I can do." The large wolf was reluctant to give up his alone time, which wouldn't be the first sacrifice he had made for Kuma tonight. But, he thought grimly, packs are held together with sacrifices. Wasn't that was Nightrun and Raenor had told them, when they had exiled Scythe from the valley? "Can you walk?" He asked, breaking from his thoughts and turning again to the small black wolf.

The large russet wolf nodded to himself- Kuma could make it to his den. It wasn't far. Unfortunately for him, this meant Martial would have to slow to her hobbling pace. He closed his eyes, swallowing his frustration, and padded at death pace just in front of Kuma.
Sooner than Martial had expected, they reached the hollowed out dry log that was his den. It wasn't far from camp, but no wolf would be stupid enough to try and shelter at camp on a night like this. The log was in a clearing, so as Martial led his guest inside the dead tree, he knew it would be safe if and when lightning struck once more. He crouched down and wriggled in on his belly until it was wide enough to almost stand. Then he widened his stance, glanced at Kuma as a warning to stand back, and shook his fur, sending millions of water droplets everywhere. He had been wanting to do that for hours. When he was satisfied with his shower, he circled the moss bed a couple of times and then settled down comfortably. "You're welcome," he muttered to Kuma, and closed his eyes. Though Martial was far from tired, he contented himself with watching the little scrap through slitted yellow eyes, amused.

As interesting as watching Kuma sleep was, Martial soon found himself pacing the den restlessly. He knew he couldn't leave the little wolf here alone, but he wanted so badly to go outside. If only it wasn't raining! Hopefully, Martial poked his nose out of the hollow log. He sniffed the air deeply, but though he smelled rain, it was that sweet afterscent of a downpour, right after it has rained hard and the sun has finally found it's way out of the clouds. Cautiously, he peeked out, and sure enough, the moon shone brightly into his golden eyes, lighting up the whole forest and shining endlessly in the cloudless sky. Finally! He hurriedly nudged Kuma, waking her from her sleep. "The rain stopped," he told her, pushing her gently to her feet. "You should go back to camp."

Kuma felt a warm nose poke her slightly in her stomach. "Wha, the rain stopped?" Kuma wobbled when she stood, and causght the smell of burnt fur all around her. Taking a sniff, she noticed that she was the burnt smell scent. "Can you help me back to camp?" Kuma asked.

Martial shrugged- he had been planning to go for a walk anyway, and he found himself thinking that a quick check back at camp might not be too bad of an idea. "Sure thing," he replied, and scampered out of the old log, assuming that Kuma would be able to make it out by herself. Outside, the moon gleamed happily among the bright, twinkling stars, and the sweet scent of after-rain filled his nostrils, accompanied by the welcoming smell of other wolves and creatures of the night all around him. Though he was alone (save for Kuma), he knew that his packmates weren't far, and they could be by his side in the blink of an eye if ever he encountered any trouble. That was the beauty of living among a pack- they stuck together.
