Sprite smiled, his tongue lolling out of his mouth as he skidding happily across the thick ice. The lake was frozen over and, though he knew he shouldn't be out this late in the day, sliding around on the ice was the only good part of winter. The sun sparkled beautifully on the ice, reflecting the sapphire sky. It may be freezing cold, but at least the sky was clear! Sprite ran across the ice at full speed, slowing down skillfully before stopping all together and skidding across the frozen lake. His blue-gray fur, thick with the season, shone in the run, emphasizing the blue in his pelt.

Moon pawed the ice cautiously, well camouflaged behind a bush so Sprite wouldn't see him hesitating. His friend would certainly make fun of him for being too scared to walk onto the thickly frozen lake, and rightfully so. But all of his instincts screamed to stay away from the ice; even if it looked thick, there was probably parts of water that weren't completely frozen. Even in this weather, the combination of rapid water movement and sunlight could create dangerous patches in the ice. Or so his mother had told him.

Riskan saw Sprite and thought "Why not?" so he ran onto ice and joined Sprite, occasionally falling through the ice but he knew he was strong enough to climb out. Once it got a little darker he decided to stop.

Sprite paused in his play and glanced up at the sky. The sun had already sunk to the edge of the valley, and was setting quickly. He had stayed up all day! He vaguely noticed Qwexe climbing back onto the beach and slinking into the night, and decided to follow the older wolf; as much fun as it was, there was no point in wasting the night out on the frozen lake as well as the day. So, as he made his way toward the sandy shore, he noticed a small rustling movement behind the beech tree. Even in the dull light of the setting sun, when his night vision hadn't quite kicked in yet but it was still too dark to see well, he could make out a small figure and black fur. Sprite sniffed the air curiously, and was surprised when the sharp scent of Racing Moon met his nostrils. "Moon?" He called into the evening, but his call was only met with silence and the excited chirping of birds settling in for the night.

Riskan was looking down at the ground before he heard Sprite's call. Once he had heard the call for Moon, he looked back at Sprite, curious at why he was yelling the wolf's name, then noticed the scent of Moon in the air. He hesitated, but not long later, ran toward where the scent was coming from and saw Moon behind a couple bushes. "Why are you hiding here" Riskan asked Moon

Moon started, jumping around to face the wolf. "Oh, Riskan, it's you," Moon almost sighed with relief as he recognized the smooth, familiar features of his pack mate. "I was just... uhm, taking a rest before going back to camp," he replied lamely. Then, eager to change the subject, he added, "do you know if there's a hunt tonight?" However, by responding to Riskan, Moon had acknowledged his presence, and Sprite was sure to spot him now.

Riskan belived the wolf and then replied "No, I don't think there is a hunt tonight but we better get back to camp anyways." Riskan walked slowly through a shortcut to camp leaving the two wolves by themselves. He knew he had to get back to camp quickly to tell the other wolves where Sprite and Moon(especially sprite) were before the others started to get worried.

Sprite smirked when Moon spoke, confirming his thoughts. So the little rat had been sitting there the whole time, and never shown himself. What a coward. Although, he supposed he should give the little scrap a break; he was much younger than Sprite and was probably only wanting to play, but was too scared to go onto the ice. It made Sprite glad he was older; being young and small was such a disadvantage in a pack. He hated being a pup, but he had to be patient- his father had told him that he would grow to be as big as him some day. With one last skid across the ice, he planted himself on the shore and sprinted across the sand to catch up with the other two wolves.

Riskan didn't tell many people, only the one's who would really care. Then he found a good, comfy, spot to fall asleep. He had a short nap. By the time he woke up, the other wolves were just starting to walk to camp. He decided to walk back to the lake just to watch the stars and moon reflect of the ice. He got there without the other wolves noticing him. The sight was beautiful.

When Sprite arrived at camp, the buzz of early evening filled him with new excitement. Almost everyone was up, and the camp was at it's busiest because almost no one had left yet. The smell of a fresh night hit him as well, and the sensations were overwhelming. This was by far his favourite time. Out of habit, he picked his sister out of the crowd and went to her. She sat with their mother, and both of their gray-white pelts camouflaged with the dirty, churned-up snow in the camp. "Hey Feather, hi mom," he said, trying to keep the guilt from his voice. Maybe Kiba hadn't noticed that he had been out all day...
